People: The person behind the scene

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

As a toddler, Shia Lynn was caught drawing on the wall. In school, she was chosen for Mural Paintings.

Shia Lynn is a self-taught artist/crafter who graduated in Diploma in Advertising, TCPJ School of Communication. She started T-shirt painting and Body painting as a hobby and was a Costume/Stage Designer for ‘HipHopera’, a stage-play by TCPJ Society of Performing Arts on college.

She catered her freelance service for La Senza Girls VIP Party event, Dragonfly Tattoo Parlor, +Wondermilk, Sunrise Flea Market Mont Kiara, Mummy Returns Event One Utama and Nicleesher Fashion House. She was also approached by Lavin Seow, Apples n’ Pearls and La Senza Girls Boutique.

She took up fabric painting course to be a certified professional teacher, a certificate which is internationally recognized and endorsed by Pebeo, France.

Her first Fabric Painting and Reconstructed-fashion show was in conjunction of a charity event for Taylor’s in Bukit Jalil, along with fashion designer Keith Kee and performance by Cosmic Funk Express.

In 2006, Shia Lynn worked for Craft Haven as an Assistant Crafter to learn about retail, teaching and crafting in an established craft store. The same year, she held another fashion show for PLU ICON pageant at The Disco for a unique crowd, this time with a hand-painted mask.

After teaching children English, arts and creativity development as a day job, in 2008, Shia Lynn joined Da Vinci Creative Kids, a subsidiary of The One Academy as a Creative Programme Developer developing art programmes for children. She recently started painting again with the support from her sister, Jade Toh, a fine arts artist.

In 2009, Shia Lynn started an arts and craft blog called ‘The Artsy Craftsy’. Instead of just posting up her paintings and craftwork, she writes about anything related to creativity and seeks for art and craft blogs to review on. Currently, Shia Lynn is a Copywriter for The One Academy and takes photos and sketches during her free time. Soon, she has future plans for a thrifty-blogshop and a home-studio.
