Style Alert: How to Wear Long Dresses

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

I don’t know about you, but I always like long dresses. Long dresses have an edge at the same time, a sweet and romantic look to it. Plus long dresses are never out of style and it can be a basic wardrobe essential for you to include in your closet.

Long dresses is an outfit that gives you the freedom to style it however way you want and according to your own personality.

Some might think that long dresses are tricky and a little too much to style with. Another myth that it is only meant for tall people.

Well, I don’t think that it is ONLY meant for tall people; I think people with an average Asian height like mine, will still be able to dress up in a nice long dressy-dress and still look elegant in it.

Tall people just have an added advantage because of their height and long dresses happen to accentuate their slim body and elongate their height even more; an illusion I’d say.

Anyways, I have put together a simple style post on how to wear long dresses, using a longsleeve-long tie-dye dress.

For a change, style it with a pair of calf-length boots. I prefer calf-length boots because they can be worn easily with short pants, skinny jeans, short skirt, skater skirt and even long dresses

Unlike ankle length boots, if mismatched, one will end up looking stumpy whereas calf-length boots are at a moderate length, just nice for all outfits.

Long dresses can also be accessorized pretty easily; some like long necklaces because it elongates the length of the dress- again, illusion. Some like to style it with a belt, like clinchers. In my case, to complement the yellow longtie-dye dress, I styled it with a brown belt; a hue to match the yellow.

For a Day-2-Night outfit, long dresses can be worn with a pair of heels but depending on your height too. For short people, wearing a long dress and really high heels can make a person appear clumsy. The best style tip for an average height, is to match it with a pair of kitten heels or mid-heels; a height just nice even for tall people.

And if you are looking for a laidback weekender outfit, throw on a pair of sandals. Just make sure your long dress isn’t too long to be dragged around on the ground.

Style alert: How to wear Floral Prints

Tuesday, September 24, 2013
Floral prints are becoming every girl's favourite outfit, finding its way into our closet and reviving the romantic outlook. As a dark coloured style person, I never knew how easy it was to mix and match with a floral printed clothing. Floral printed outfits aren't gaudy at all; in fact this type of prints complement easily with a one-tone clothing. I usually like to follow a 3-colour rule; only 3 matching colours would do and trust me, you can never go wrong.

The trick here to styling with a floral outfit (at most times, very colourful) is to match with clothing, shoe or accessory that can complement the floral clothing (as it is the main focus). You don't want to add anything to it, just something to complement it would do.

So with that, I have put together a couple of ideas to inspire you on how you can wear floral prints easily. Here is my take on how to style with floral print outfits.

Colourful inner wear- mix and match with various coloured tops; from bright to dark. Always remember that 3-colour rule OR one-tone rule.
Complement with a light blue
Complement with a red
Complement with a black
Complement with a grey

For a laid back feminine attire, match a floral printed blazer with a skater skirt and a pair of simple flats.

Or UP your outfit to look sophisticated with a pair of peep-toe heels

Want to look stylish and not gaudy? Style it with a sexy black top and a pair of black jeggings and heels; I leave the heels to your imagination, you can style it with a peep-toe like these here, or you can match it with a pair of stilettos.

Switch your outfit from a high-end style to a hip-look just by changing into a pair of flats and a loose satin blouse inside

Style with a Dark Floral Blouse
The rule of thumb for me when it comes to planning my outfit is that the colour black always matches with anything and everything.

It is the easiest style tip and a basic wardrobe essential must-have in every girl's closet. A dark floral blouse is just as similar as a basic wardrobe essential; its dark colour is a plus point and owning this can be creatively matched with any bottom clothing.

I always believe in being a smart shopper and creative style planner when it comes to dressing up; it is important to know what matches and what doesn't so that your wardrobe will never run out of style.

Here is how to style with a dark coloured floral blouse.

Complement with a pair of Red pants and heels
Tuck it in with a long black skirt. In here is a flowy pixie skirt
With a pair of long black pants
And a cute pink high-waist shorts
Or keep it simple yet sophisticated with a black chiffon 'skort' (that's short + skirt)

Style Alert: How to wear Pastel Colours

Monday, September 23, 2013

Pastel colours; more than just looking sweet.

Today, wearing pastels isn’t about looking prim and proper anymore. Gone are the days when it is only meant for sweet young petite girls. Its soft and light fabric and soothing colour makes a difference to your image. One would feel comfortable styling with pastel colours, and the word here you are looking for is: FRESH. Refreshing colours can immediately lift up your mood and how you feel.

I used to think pastel colours are tad bit challenging to style with. I would usually resort to dark hue outfits; I still do, but I no longer perceive pastel colours difficult to mix and match with other tops and bottoms anymore.

I have experimented with a couple of bottoms to style with a lovely pastel pink sleeveless blouse. Here are a couple of my takes on how you can mix and match with a pastel coloured top.

For the start of your week, if you are looking for a smart casual look, style your blouse with a pair of black pants or leggings with heels. Battle “Monday-blues” with a refreshing pastel colour top

For a weekender outfit, pair it with white summer shorts. The light colour and fabric makes it easy to match it with a pair of shorts; you can style the outfit up with a pair of laidback sandals or heels.

For a girl’s night out; looking for something with a feminine touch but not too girly at the same time? Pair it with a deep greyish purple tone.

For a Day-2-Night, tuck it in with a long pixie skirt and a pair of black high heels.

Finally, for a date-night to dinner or a club, fancy a pair of black chiffon shorts with the light coloured blouse and heels.

For accessories, wear simple jewellery; just one big ring would do as to not overwhelm your entire outfit.

Other than that, you can style with a brown colour belt. Nothing to chunky though, just a thin belt would do to complement the pastel coloured top.
