Style Alert: How to Wear Long Dresses

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

I don’t know about you, but I always like long dresses. Long dresses have an edge at the same time, a sweet and romantic look to it. Plus long dresses are never out of style and it can be a basic wardrobe essential for you to include in your closet.

Long dresses is an outfit that gives you the freedom to style it however way you want and according to your own personality.

Some might think that long dresses are tricky and a little too much to style with. Another myth that it is only meant for tall people.

Well, I don’t think that it is ONLY meant for tall people; I think people with an average Asian height like mine, will still be able to dress up in a nice long dressy-dress and still look elegant in it.

Tall people just have an added advantage because of their height and long dresses happen to accentuate their slim body and elongate their height even more; an illusion I’d say.

Anyways, I have put together a simple style post on how to wear long dresses, using a longsleeve-long tie-dye dress.

For a change, style it with a pair of calf-length boots. I prefer calf-length boots because they can be worn easily with short pants, skinny jeans, short skirt, skater skirt and even long dresses

Unlike ankle length boots, if mismatched, one will end up looking stumpy whereas calf-length boots are at a moderate length, just nice for all outfits.

Long dresses can also be accessorized pretty easily; some like long necklaces because it elongates the length of the dress- again, illusion. Some like to style it with a belt, like clinchers. In my case, to complement the yellow longtie-dye dress, I styled it with a brown belt; a hue to match the yellow.

For a Day-2-Night outfit, long dresses can be worn with a pair of heels but depending on your height too. For short people, wearing a long dress and really high heels can make a person appear clumsy. The best style tip for an average height, is to match it with a pair of kitten heels or mid-heels; a height just nice even for tall people.

And if you are looking for a laidback weekender outfit, throw on a pair of sandals. Just make sure your long dress isn’t too long to be dragged around on the ground.
